Responsible Energy's History

"Burning, burying, or deep well injecting waste never makes the problem go away.
We need to challenge the way we think about waste once it can no longer be recycled"

Responsible Energy Inc. is a Canadian Corporation that was founded in 2007 out of a belief that the long term thinking of managing waste has to be fixed. More importantly there must be a better way to dispose of non-recyclables other than burning, burying, or deep well injecting.

During the early years,
Responsible Energy focused on analyzing all of the thermal waste destruction technologies from around the world. A scientific area that showed great environmental performance was gasification. On the surface, it seemed like gasification might even be able to compete with landfill and incineration disposal costs. In the end, Responsible Energy concluded that none of the solutions came close to being economical. The majority required highly sorted waste and/or a dedicated, capital intensive, energy enrichment stage to enable the production of a usable synthesis gas (syngas).

After this disappointing discovery,
Responsible Energy began developing a sustainable solution that led to what is now known today as our multi-patented Free Radical Gasification technology. The invention team at Responsible Energy knew it was on the right track immediately when the first prototype reactor successfully produced a high-energy syngas from both solids and liquids. The team was then able to verify scalability by building a small-scale demonstration system that improved our Free Radical Gasification’s results by being able to create a consistent high-energy syngas.
